It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, son, and friend: William (Bill) Kerr III. Bill died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 12, 2024.
Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years Wendy, his children William, Matthew (Ashley) and Christopher, his mother Heather Taillefer, step-mother Shirley Kerr, his siblings Marnie (Mike), Dan (Pam), Mark (Tara), Jon (Kelly), Jer and Caroline, along with numerous much loved nephews, nieces, cousins and in–laws. He was pre-deceased by his father William Kerr and step-father Raymond Taillefer.
Bill started his golf career at the age of 17. Having worked at many courses in Quebec and Ontario, he accepted the position of Head Professional at Black Bear Ridge G.C. in 2005. He was proud to work for the late owner, Brian Magee, and more recently for the new owners and management team led by Alex Sharpe and Cale Fair. Bill was well known by many golfers in this community, and across Canada. Throughout the years he could be found in the pro-shop, the back-shop, the kitchen, and on both sides of the bar. Bill loved his job and was most happy when making other people happy, at work and everywhere else. While golf was important to Bill, his first love was always his family.
Wendy and boys want to thank the staff at the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic, all of his doctors and nurses in Belleville and Kingston, and especially the V.O.N. nursing staff who helped him fight cancer for over a year. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Belleville General Hospital Foundation and/or to our local branch of the V.O.N.
There will be a public visitation on Friday, May 3 from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m. at the Burke Funeral Home in Belleville.
We invite anyone who wants to raise a glass in his honour, to a Celebration of Life at Black Bear Ridge G.C. on Saturday, May 4, starting at 2 p.m. There will be speeches and tears, but also many laughs.
