2022 Pro Junior Championship
Thank you for competing in the 2022 Pro Junior Championship at Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ontario on July 5, 2022.
The weather wasn't perfect with periods of steady rain throughout the day but the excitement by the juniors, overshadowed the conditions.
REPLICA PGA HOLES AT WOODEN STICKS
Playing at Wooden Sticks Golf Club, a golf course featuring holes inspired by some of the famous golf holes from around the world was a thrill to many, especially the Island Green on the 17th hole. You could feel the excitement as the juniors made their way to the tee box, especially waiting to sound the applause after landing on the green.
Steve Wilson, Head Professional at Wooden Sticks was thrilled to host the juniors and pros at the event for the 12th year running.
"Everyone appreciates the fact that they get an opportunity to see a facility like this, even if they are members at private clubs", said Wilson. "It's so great to see our colleagues bring their juniors out for the day".
Many pros played with juniors from their respective clubs but there was also memories made among families.
"It's really fun, I just enjoy playing with my dad," said Nigel Knight. "He's really good and I love picking up some tips from him", he added. Adam Knight, Apprentice Professional at Pure Impact Golf Academy was excited at having an opportunity to play with his son. "I don't know how to put it into words, there's nothing else I'd rather do," said the gleaming father. The duo finished in 20th place in Gross and 11th place in the Net Score format but the experience was more meaningful than the score.
The event also saw a range of ages of the juniors playing with the pros, as young as 8-year-old Angela Qi from Angus Glen Golf Club. Her pairing partner was her instructor Wenqin Shao and he appreciated her passion. "This is her first time playing 18 holes!", said Shao. "I couldn't be more happy for her, she played well and loved the course".
Congratulations to our winners of the tournament, Ryan Morita from Rattlesnake Point Golf Club and Brad Kinvig, from Piper's Heath Golf Club who won both the Gross and Net Score.
It was a team effort according to Kinvig, whose coached Morita for the last five years and knows about his skill-set.
"I was making sure he saw me trying my hardest," said Kinvig. "I knew would bring out the best in him. A couple holes I put the pressure on him by hitting wayward shots and he stepped up with some great shots", he added.
Both held off the rainy conditions and picked each other up during the team event.
"We didn't know exactly where we were on the leaderboard but when we shook hands on 18 we knew we had to be somewhere up there; this will be a great memory for Ryan and myself for year's to come".
