2022 Head Pro/Assistant Pro Team Series

2022 Head Pro/Assistant Pro Team Series

Thank you to those that competed in the Head Pro/Assistant Pro Team Series at Whistle Bear Golf Club.

We had a total of 45 teams compete in the event and for the third straight season, the team of Brad Kerfoot and Michael Moniz from Maple Downs Golf and Country Club came out on top carding 8-under 63 for the victory.

A three-way tie for second place ensued with David Banks and Desmond Primeau (Hidden Lake Golf Club), Gord Burns and James Seymour (Gord Burns Golf School) and Aaron Brush and Riley Schaus (Saugeen Golf Club) finishing at 4-under.

The tournament got underway on Monday with Dayton Price hitting a ceremonial tee-shot. A special moment for the 19-year-old Mississauga native and Whistle Bear Golf Club Member and to everyone in attendance at the club.

"It means a lot for me to be here, I've had so much support from everyone", said Price, who two weeks ago, just started to walk again after suffering major injuries in a horrific car accident in March of this year. Price, who has sustained burns to 40 per cent of his body is focusing on his family and the golf community to raise his spirits. "It motivates me more to get better and get back on the golf course and do things by myself again and be 100%; the support has been unbelieveable".

His ceremonial tee shot at the front of the clubhouse was greeted by a well-deserved round of applause from the players and staff who had gathered to watch.

"We are so lucky to have Dayton here", said Chris Dickenson, Head Teaching Professional at Whistle Bear's Ontario Golf Academy. "He is probably the most inspiring person I have met in my entire life so hopefully this offers everyone some perspective."

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

The duo of Kerfoot and Moniz put on a clinic with their putting with Kerfoot draining five birdies in the last six holes of the better ball format.

"I would like to say I've chipped in a few times in our previous victories, but this time I can honestly say it was all Brad", said Moniz. "There was not much for me to do but get out of his way".

Kerfoot humbly agreed.

"The wind was blowing pretty hard, we got off to a slow start in the scramble format but you just have to stay with it just like any other competition", said Kerfoot adding that the focus was just to finish strong. "You just have to buckle down and keep grinding".

Adam Tobin, Director of Golf at Whistle Bear Golf Club acknowledged the tricky conditions with the wind and thanked everyone involved in facilitating the event.

"The conditions were tough", said Tobin. "The greens were playing fast and the wind really picked up and I think it was a great test out there for everyone."

It showed on the scorecards as 20 out of the 45 teams shot even par or lower.

Levelwear was the presenting sponsor of the event and distributed merchandise to our players before the 11am shotgun start. Aly Medeiros, National Sales Coordinator was thrilled to be involved. "I know this is something that we have been working on for a number of years, growing our sponsorship partners", said Medeiros. "Being the presenting sponsor here is fantastic, we're glad it's finally come to fruition".

The day also saw on-course activations by Dick Duff's Jerky, providing samples of their beef jerky and Clean N Grill, offering their professional cleaning services and offering BBQ sauce to participants.
