Event Recap

You know how they say teamwork makes the dream work? Well, this was especially true at Wyndance Golf Club on Monday, September 16th, as Joseph D’Alfonso and Nick Papousek competed together to capture the win at the 2024 G&G Brands Pro/Pro Team Series presented by Merit Travel Golf Vacations!

Hosted at the scenic Wyndance Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ontario, this year's team better-ball event was a huge success; a testament to both the beauty of the course and the exceptional hospitality provided by the club.

The day began with a burst of excitement as the traditional pre-shotgun putt-off unfolded. In a thrilling spectacle, over 100 players gathered around the green to putt simultaneously at a central pin. It was a lively affair where fortunes could change in an instant. Amidst the chaos, Branson Ferrier stood out, as his ball made a beeline for the pin and sank effortlessly into the cup, narrowly avoiding the other rolling balls. Understandably, the crowd first felt a hint of envy but quickly congratulated Ferrier.

    The prize package includes:

  • Three nights' accommodation for 2 people in an Elite Casita
  • Daily breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks
  • Unlimited beverages by the glass at resort restaurants & bars (including golf course beverage cart/stands)
  • Three rounds of golf per person (one round at each of Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore & The Links)

Ferrier's reaction was priceless: "I guess I’m gonna need some time off work!"

The action didn’t stop there. On hole #8, Rob Coulter from Merit Travel Golf Vacations and Chris Stubbs from Casa de Campo hosted a closest-to-the-pin challenge. Brendon Allman held the lead for most of the day until Ed Maunder, in the final group, landed his shot within 2 feet of the pin, clinching the $100 cash prize. Maunder’s humour was evident as he joked about missing the subsequent putt but was thrilled with his win.

Hole #12 featured a “hit the green” activation courtesy of Jaime Bryant from G&G Brands. Golfers who hit the green off the tee were entered into a draw for PGA-branded TravisMathew luggage. Four lucky winners—Victor Ciesielski, Brett Kudoba, Jamie Breedon, and Miko Soliman—left with stylish new bags.

The day reached its climax with a thrilling finish as Joseph D’Alfonso and Nick Papousek clinched the 2024 G&G Brands Pro/Pro Team Series presented by Merit Travel Golf Vacations victory. Their performance was nothing short of spectacular, finishing with a 9-under-par round of 63.

Despite a shaky start with a bogey on hole 15, the pair rallied with two solid pars and then ignited their round with five consecutive birdies, pushing them into contention.

As they approached the final holes, the pressure was on, with two teams—Michael Serio and Victor Ciesielski, and Chad Denyes and Jakob Montemurro—hot on their heels, just one stroke behind and still with a few holes left to play.

A pressure-filled moment came on hole 13, a par 5, when Jerri McRogers, Marketing and Communications Coordinator, appeared on the fairway to capture some content. Papousek, who had peeked at the leaderboard, knew they held a narrow lead. Despite D’Alfonso’s initial reluctance to know their standing, he sensed the gravity of the situation when he saw McRogers, which fueled him to execute a beautiful, lengthy shot from the fairway onto the green. Papousek followed suit with a similar shot, both players setting up for potential eagles. While they narrowly missed their eagle putts, they secured a solid birdie to finish the round at 9-under.

The tension was palpable as D’Alfonso and Papousek awaited the final results, knowing that the leading position was anything but secure. Their birdie on the 18th hole was just enough to hold off the competition. Both players, representing Summit Golf Club, were ecstatic to claim the Championship title.

An honourable mention goes to Chad Denyes and Jakob Montemurro, who not only finished tied for second but also took home the entire skins pot with an eagle on hole 7.

It was a fantastic day filled with excitement and outstanding golf. None of this would have been possible without the warm hospitality from Wyndance Golf Club and the unwavering support of our sponsors, G&G Brands and Merit Travel Golf Vacations.

This event is a highlight on our tournament calendar, and we look forward to another thrilling experience at the 2025 event.
