Winning back-to-back championships is no easy feat, but Victor Ciesielski managed to make it look pretty darn easy. The 2024 Assistants’ Championship, held at the challenging Cardinal Lakes Golf Club from August 12th to 13th, saw Ciesielski defend his title with remarkable poise and skill. The par 71 course, full of tricky and firm greens, tested the players more than anticipated, causing scores to fluctuate significantly.
The event featured 36 holes of stroke play over two days. By the end of the first round, Ciesielski led with a strong 66, 5-under par. James Seymour, fresh off his recent PGA of Ontario Zone Championship win, was 3-under, while David Byrne was close behind at 4-under.
The final round saw a thrilling battle among the top contenders. Ciesielski started hot with a birdie on the first hole, a par 5, and maintained his lead throughout the day despite fierce competition from Seymour and Byrne. Seymour finished the tournament in second place with a total score of 138 (68, 70). While Byrne, along with Brad Kerfoot, tied for third at 139.
Ciesielski's performance was exceptional, marked by eight birdies and one eagle, finishing with a total score of 135, 7-under par (66, 69). His stellar putting was a key factor in his success. The camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all players, especially Ciesielski’s playing partners, Byrne and Seymour, highlighted the spirit of the Assistants’ Championship.
