Allum, Walsh Jr. & Cochrane Finish Strong

CAMBRIDGE, ON -- Fourteen teams came to tee it up yesterday at Cambridge Golf Club for the newly formed 3-Tour Scramble. Teams made up of a female professional, male professional and a senior professional enjoyed a day of comradery, storytelling and a little competition. The hot topic was what the weather might do! The combination of hot and steamy conditions will almost always pose a threat of thunderstorms and while the rain did come down heavy enough to stop play, the round continued after a 30 minute delay.

It was great to see so many new faces but also some with the new title of senior!!

As the scores starting rolling in it was the team of Casey Ward, Brad Lawrence and Doug Lawrie that were the leaders in the club house with 13-under 59. The team of Rhonda Fleury, Patrick O'Neill and Henry Brunton came in shortly after carding -14 under 58 with a double eagle on the 446 yard par 5 2nd hole.

It was the team with Meghan Allum (Granite Golf Club), 2017 Breenie Cup winner Billy Walsh Jr. and PGA of Club Professional Championship of Canada winner John Cochrane that ended up topping the field with a blistering 17-under 55.

"It is a challenging golf course from tee shots on the par 4's and 5's to very strong par 3's. The course was in great shape and the greens fast and true. Making 17 birdies shows the quality of the greens, if you hit it on line it was in! I would like the thank Cambridge Golf Course for hosting the event and my playing partners, it was a great day" said John Cochrane. Billy Walsh Jr. added "It is a great social event to come out to, share stories, some laughs but John and I have got to thank Meghan, although we hit driver we didn't use many of our drives"

We know one team will be back for another run at the 3-Tour Scramble!  After handing in their card Brad Lawrence and team said “The 3-Tour Scramble was a blast, the format was great and it’s the only event that brings the Men, Women and Senior Divisions together on one team.  We are already talking about next year’s event it was so much fun”.

The PGA of Ontario heads back to Cambridge on Thursday for the Playing Ability Test.
