Cryderman Wins First Career Merit Travel Golf Vacations Match Play Championship

AURORA, ON -- The season long PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone 2018 Merit Travel Golf Vacations Match Play Championship culminated on September 6th at Beacon Hall Golf Club. Four players descended on the annual venue for the Match Play Finals and started the morning with their semi-final matches with the finals being played in the afternoon. The semi-finals saw Brian McCann facing Braeden Cryderman and Bill Walsh Jr. facing Gordon Burns.

In the semi-finals Cryderman took an early lead on McCann right out of the gate. McCann managed to bring the match back to all-square after the third hole but Cryderman stepped on the gas and didn't let off for the rest of the match winning 3&2. Cryderman and McCann both bogeyed the par 5, 573 yard fourth hole. Cryderman recalled after the round saying "It is one of the only bogeys I have made in any of my matches".

In the other semi-final match Walsh Jr. and Burns started off all-square when Burns started pulling ahead and by the 8th hole Burns was 3UP. Walsh Jr. who wasn't taking a back seat to the show fought hard on the back 9 taking the match 1UP.

With the final match set to go Bill Walsh Jr. and Braeden Cryderman began the hunt for their first match play victory. Cryderman started to lay the ground work early in the round but Walsh's three bogeys on the front 9 gave Cryderman the lead 4UP. Once again Braeden did not let up, finishing the bogey free round and winning his first 2018 Merit Travel Golf Vacations Match Play Championship.

In the consolation match Gord Burns was on a roll until Brian McCann managed to bring it back to all-square on the on the 15th hole and took the match with a par on 18.

Cryderman said "I am a little surprised with the win, I have been very busy, both professionally and personally. My teaching schedule has been picking up and many of my friends decided to get married this summer, so I haven't had a lot time to play this season".
