Four Team Playoff needed to decide PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone Sr Pro/Jr Pro Team Series

RICHMOND HILL, ON - The PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone was at DiamondBack Golf Club on Monday for the 2018 Senior Pro/Junior Pro Team Series. Thirty-eight teams came out to vie for the 2018 Senior Pro Junior Pro title.

With all teams under par, four teams were tied for first at 12-under 60 after all the cards were in. The four teams all made their way to the 18th hole where they would go toe-to-toe-to-toe. The eight-man playoff consisted of Danny King / Dave Moro, Gar Hamilton / Ed Maunder, Dan Clark / Brad Kerfoot and John Najev / Brett Walker. John Najev (Heron Point Golf Links) and Brett Walker outlasted the competition winning their first Senior Pro/Junior Pro title.

Najev and Walker who carded 11 birdies and an eagle have known each other for a couple years, but really just started playing together at Heron Point this year. They thought it would make a "fun" partnership and it paid off!

The course was in great shape, greens were receptive, quick and smooth. It was a fun course for the format with lots of risk/reward opportunities in a scramble format. With Brett's length off the tee it opens up many scoring opportunities and a distinct advantage in this format. If you could find your line, you knew it was going in." John said.

"John is an amazing wedge player. I'm obviously known for my distance, so I knew if I could keep putting a wedge in John's hands we were going to get a lot of good looks. He actually almost holed out twice on the way in." said Brett following the round.

John told me to hit it left of where we were in regulation because we ran through the fairway the first time around. Unfortunately I hit it a little too far left and got us beside a tree and behind a whole bunch of other trees. But with only 176 yards left we knew it was the better option for the scramble format. After my shot hit the trees in front of us, John hit an awesome cut 6 iron up and over onto the green. We had seen a similar left to right breaker in regulation. Once again, with the way the greens were rolling I knew if I hit the line it had to go in. Luckily it hit the hole!" recalls Walker.

"This event maybe the most enjoyable one to play in as it brings together generations of PGA Professional's. While the highlight of the event is competing for the Championship and the 1st place cheque, truly the fun occurs before and after the event, listening to all the stories for years past from many of the senior Professional's. It's the camaraderie and fellowship at team events like these where it doesn't really matter how you played. Look forward to seeing everyone at the Fall Pro/Pro at Turnberry" said Tournament Captain Michael Moniz.
