Whistle Bear GC and Kawartha G&CC take top honours at
TaylorMade PGA of Ontario Tournament of Champions

OAKVILLE, ON - Teams from Whistle Bear Golf Club and Kawartha Golf and Country Club clinched top spots in the TaylorMade PGA of Ontario Tournament of Champions at RattleSnake Golf Club.

On an absolutely stunning day for golf, the team from Whistle Bear Golf Club led by Head Professional Chris Wehrle and club champions Michele Charles and Luke Moser shot a spectacular 9-under par 63 on the Sidewinder Course for a single stroke victory over the Greenhills GC squad of professional Matt Dominski and club champions Peggy Slegers and Brett McIntosh. The format for the event is one gross best ball.

"We had seven birdies and an eagle and we felt really comfortable out there on the greens," said Wehrle who carries a full line of TaylorMade clubs in his bag including the new R1 driver and his bread and butter TM Rossa Kia Ma putter that has been in his bag for seven or eight years.

Over on the Copperhead course, Kawartha G&CC led by Head Professional Mark Ahrens with club champions Marilyn Self and Marc Savard posted a sweet 7-under par 65 for another one stroke win over team Twenty Valley G&CC led professional Ron Kenesky and club champions Bill Lipsett and Karen Vamplew. It was the second Tournament of Champions win for Kawartha G&CC, which won back in 2006.

"It was a great day. I really enjoy the format of playing against other club champions and their pros," says Savard, who played in it last year but finished middle of the pack. "We had a couple of lucky chip ins from off the green and that was really the difference for us today. Both Savard and Self play a full line of TaylorMade clubs, so it was extra sweet for them to win the TaylorMade PGA of Ontario Tournament of Champions.

For nearly a decade TaylorMade has sponsored the PGA of Ontario Tournament of Champions - as it does in Alberta and British Columbia. David Bradley, Managing Director at TaylorMade-adidas Golf Canada & Latin America and his team of Ontario sales representatives including; Peter Chandler, Mike Taylor, Heather Bodajla, Lindsay Loevenmark, Mitch Say, Paul Davies, Chris Bishop, as well as Nick Obritsch, Marketing Manager for TaylorMade and Cameron Jacobs, Manager, Custom Fitting, TMaG Canada, were out in full force to network with the head professionals and chat with the club champions.

"We have had a great start to the year. We are really happy with the R1, our most adjustable driver to this point along with the Canadian golfers' interest in the RocketBladez iron featuring the speed pocket," Bradley said.

He told the gathering that the new adizero golf shoes, the lightest shoe they have ever made is in high demand and selling out in Canada and it's only May! Bradley added that they have seen sales increases in green grass accounts across Canada in 2013 as the industry continues to consolidate brands, as well as strengthening partnerships with golf shops. He said they're also making headway with the latest acquisition - Adams Golf - with an independent Canadian sales force led by Todd Fraser now in place.
