Highland claims Victory at Club Car Hulbert Memorial

(Thornhill, Ont., October 1, 2012) - Highland Country Club lead by Master Professional Mike Silver won the 2012 Club Car Hulbert Memorial Championship at Thornhill Country Club. Highland shot 15-under-par 56 to edge three other teams who shot 59 in the scramble format. It was a perfect day for golf and the course was exceptional.

"It always great to win and it never gets old.” said Silver.  "We made a lot of putts which is what you need to do to win an event like this," said Silver, when asked about his secret to success.

Joining Silver for this victory was Bill Neill, Barry Langford, and Steve Stoyanovich. This is the second time Highland Country Club has won the event. It was particularly special for Silver who spent two years at the club as an assistant professional many years ago.

This was the 59th edition of the Hulbert Memorial Championship which began in 1953 after the name sake Arthur Hulbert. Arthur Hulbert was the Head Professional at Thornhill Golf & Country Club from 1924 until 1945 when he died very suddenly and left his family in dire straits. The members of Thornhill and his fellow professionals banded together and held a Pro-Am to raise some money to help out his immediate family, thus, the birth of the Hulbert Memorial Fund which today is the PGA of Ontario Benevolent Fund. The purpose of the Benevolent Fund is to assist the families of PGA of Canada Professionals' in Ontario who struggle through illness, death or other catastrophic occurrences where assistance is required. Thornhill Country Club and the PGA of Ontario were very excited to bring this prestigious event back to its beginnings at Thornhill Country Club.
The Hulbert Memorial Championship is just one of the ways the benevolent fund receives support. Through continued support from many of the provinces golf courses the Hulbert Fund has successfully been helping Canadian PGA Professionals' and their families since 1946.
