Alex McIntyre of Essex Golf & CC Wins an AGM Front Nine Award

(February 1, 2011 - Orlando, FL) - The Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) honored the winners of the Front Nine Awards during their recent Retail Conference held in conjunction with the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida. Alex McIntyre, CPGA Director of Golf at Essex Golf & CC in LaSalle, Ontario, Canada and his merchandiser, Carmen Rawlings, were winners of the “The Most Innovative Use of a Fixture or Prop.”

Knowing that the continuous use of props and eye catching displays is one of the keys to keeping a golf shop fresh and new in the eyes of the customer, Alex and Carmen purchased a five foot tall wire display at a local gift show.
They named him “Golf Guy” and filled him up with golf balls. Members were invited to participate in a contest to determine the number of golf balls in the display. To enter the contest and the chance of winning a $100 pro shop gift certificate, members were asked to submit their e-mail addresses. During the promotional period, the club increased its e-mail database by more than 50% and the “golf guy” fixture has become an integral part of the fabric of the golf shop - standing stoic for all to admire.

The AGM Front Nine Awards recognize members who have created successful golf merchandising programs and ideas for their retail operations. “The mission of the AGM is education and one of the most important benefits of this initiative is the ability to share the creative information and ideas from all of the fine Front Nine entries among our international membership” said Desane Blaney, AGM Executive Director.
