Anderson Wins In Playoff With "Ballesteros" Tribute!

(Burlington July 14th)
It was another Playoff on our Simmlands Senior Tour last Thursday in Burlington at Hidden Lake Golf Club.

Brian Hutton , Greg Gates , and Jerry Anderson  would all shoot 68 to get into the 3-way playoff to decide who would walk away with this year's title.

Hutton's round was the steadiest of the three players in terms of highs and lows; as Gates birdied the last 5 holes to shoot his 68 and Anderson came home in 30 to do the same.

On the first playoff hole Greg Gates would find the bunker and a buried lie to the right of the fairway, which would eventually lead to a bogey and his elimination from the playoff.

Brian Hutton had a spectacular second shot that never left the flag, while Jerry Anderson was flag high just right of the putting surface.

Brian would leave his birdie putt short, while Jerry would get up and down thus forcing a second playoff hole.

Brian again applied the pressure with a great tee shot straight up the gut, while Jerry would come out of his tee shot and block it right heading towards the hazard just off the fairway. It was this tee shot that would lead to maybe the best par on tour this year.

Jerry's tee shot caught the cart path, and cleared the hazard; but settled in behind the trees leaving a very small window to advance the ball towards the green. With Brian sitting perfectly in the fairway, it gave Jerry no choice but to get aggressive from the jailed position he found himself in. He would describe it later (to Ontario PGA TV) as "a 5 wood that he put back in his stance and tried to punch it under and over"; that is exactly what he did, it hovered the ground under the first group of trees eventually rising over the second clump of trouble to finish 5 paces off the back left edge of the green.

Brian would then proceed to slightly push his second shot, and would leave himself flag high in the rough 10 yards from the pin.

Jerry was away with a 60 foot pitch down the hill left to right, he would leave himself about 6 feet for par; while Brian left himself about 5 feet for his save.

Jerry would make and Brian would miss; Jerry Anderson would win the Simmlands Senior Summer Championship with a "Seve" tribute par on the second playoff hole for the victory!

Congratulations Jerry, well deserved!
