Play at the 2010 Titleist Cup Suspended after Day 1 Due to Inclement Weather
9, 9, 9 Format to be Utilized to Determine 2010 Champions

(Quebec City, QC., October 7, 2010) – The first day of the 2010 Titleist Cup (Ontario PGA / Quebec PGA) Matches have been cancelled due to inclement weather. Rain for the better part of Thursday morning and through-out the day has rendered Royal Quebec Golf Club unplayable. Play will resume tomorrow morning with a slight modification to accommodate travel schedules for each team.

Beginning at 7:45AM groups will continue their fourball matches but only for the front nine of the golf course. The fourball match will consist of nine holes followed by foursomes on the back nine. The matches will conclude with 12 nine hole single matches each worth a point to decide who will win the cup.

“It’s not the most ideal scenario but it’s necessary at this point,” said Ontario Team Captain Gar Hamilton, who captained the 2009 Ontario team to victory, their first in 16 years.

Although the matches were suspended until Friday the Ontario Team did manage to grab an early 1up lead by Keir Smith and Dave Levesque over Greg Cuthill and Billy Houle after 1 hole. John Rushnell and Rick Willan are all square with Hocan Olsson and Don Hachey will Danny King and Brian French are still on the first  hole against Yvan Beauchemin and Eric Landerville.

Team Ontario will need 12 points to retain the Titleist Cup while Quebec will need 12.5 points to return the Cup to the host province. Team Ontario has only won the Titleist Cup twice in 16 years but looks poised to begin a streak of their own commencing tomorrow morning.

Match updates:

Rushnell / Willan vs. Olsson / Hachey - All Square thru 3
Levesque / Smith vs. Houle / Cuthil - Ontario 1 up thru 1
