Dave Bell Qualifies for US Senior Open

(Pickering, Ont., - July 9, 2010)Dave Bell (Tecumseh Golf Centre) will be making his first trip to a major golf championship later this month at Sahalee Country Club for the 2010 US Senior Open. Bell claimed a spot in the prestigious championship after winning a playoff at Meadowbrook Golf Club in Michigan.
“I shot even par and had to wait around for a bit but I thought I would have a chance,” said Bell, who made a par on the first hole to claim one of the two spots available at Meadowbrook. “There were some great players at that site and I feel pretty confident knowing I beat them to get in,” said an excited Bell.

Bell will head out to Seattle on the 24th to get acclimatized to the weather and time change. Practice rounds begin Sunday and he is set to tee it up with fellow Canadian Rod Spittle prior to the tournament.
“I set up a practice round with Rod last week at the Canadian PGA Seniors,” said Bell, who finished tied for 16th spot at the Senior Championship. “I didn’t play as well as I wanted to at Rattlesnake Point but overall it was a good experience,” added the 2007 Ontario PGA Senior Spring Champion.
Bell becomes the third Ontario PGA Member to play in the US Senior Open in successive years. Gar Hamilton and John Rushnell both qualified for the 2009 Senior Open which was played at Crooked Stick.
“I played in the 2002 Canadian Senior Open at Mississaugua, which was a Senior Tour event at the time and it was a very enjoyable experience,” added Bell. “That was really my only ‘Tour’ experience other than the European Senior Tour School,” where Bell made it to the finals but failed to gain a card.
The US Senior Open goes July 29 -  August 1 at Sahalee Country Club in Seattle. Check the Ontario PGA Website for updates on Bell’s progress.
