Willan Beats Rushnell in Playoff at Simmlands
Ontario PGA Senior Spring Championship at Oshawa Golf & Curling Club

(Oshawa, Ont., - June 8, 2010)Rick Willan (Markham Golf Dome) made a birdie on the second play off to claim the 2010 Ontario PGA Senior Spring Championship in playoff over John Rushnell (Oshawa G &CC). Willan and Rushnell had matching rounds 1-under-par 71 today to get into a playoff that commenced on the first hole at Oshawa.

“It feels good to win especially under these conditions,” said Willan, following the playoff. “I’ve won a few PGA Events in the past but never a big one and I hope this triggers bigger and better things,” added Willan.
For John Rushnell the let down was evident but for anyone who knows Rushnell you know he’ll bounce back.

“Rickie and I are great friends and it’s good to see him win,” said a humble Rushnell following the playoff. “It’s disappointing obviously not to win at my new course but I’ve taken a lot of positives from the week and I’m looking forward to my next event already,” said Rushnell in his typical positive demeanor.

First round co-leaders John Davis (Joshua Creek), Brian Hutton (Southbrook) and Doug Warner (Golf Town) all struggled today at Oshawa. Both Davis and Warner had a chance to enter the playoff needing only pars to join Rushnell and Willan. Davis bogied the 18th hole to finish one shot out while Warner made double bogey and finished two shots out at 152.

In the Super Senior division (60 – 69) Gar Hamilton and Ron Janes tied at 153, three shots off the overall lead. Hamilton and Janes each took home $800 for their efforts.

Although the conditions for scoring were not ideal, to a man the players thoroughly enjoyed their time at Oshawa Golf & Curling Club. The signature hole at Oshawa, #13 played the most difficult throughout the two rounds at more than a stroke over par.

The Bamboomer Long Drive qualifier for the Senior division was Bill MacKenzie. Bill earned a spot in the season ending Long Drive Championship at Angus Glen.
