David Banks’ Team Leads
Merit Golf / SkyCaddie Ontario PGA Pro Am at TPC Sawgrass

(Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl., November 27, 2009)
– David Banks (Within Range) fired a 6-under-par 66 today at the King and Bear Golf Club at the World Golf Village to help his team gain a four shot lead over Colin Black and his team from Greystone Golf Club.

Banks, whose team finished in second place at the 2008 Pro Am at PGA National, shot an impressive 16-under-par in the first round of the two net best ball championship. Banks’ attributed his team’s fine play to Andy Pavletich who played very well today.

“Andy played to his handicap today and anytime you have an amateur who does that it’s going to be good for the team,” said Banks. “The key for us today was not having a hole where we were collectively over par.”

This is the second consecutive year the Ontario PGA has conducted a pro am in November. Michael Farrugia’s (Fairtree) team was the big winner in 2008 and Farrugia currently sits three shots back of banks in the individual competition after shooting a 3-under-par 69 at this year’s edition of the Ontario PGA Pro Am.

Tomorrow the participants head to the famed TPC Sawgrass to play the Stadium course and try their luck at the elusive island green on the 17th hole. All participants received a SkyCaddie on Wednesday so having the wrong yardage shouldn’t be a factor for the players when they reach the 17th hole.

The final round commences on Sunday at Dye’s Valley Course which is adjacent to the Stadium course at Sawgrass. Some argue that the Valley Course is more demanding than the Stadium course, and all of the participants will soon find that out.

The overall winners will receive a trip back to Sawgrass to once again tackle the Stadium and Valley Courses at the resort over three nights and four days. The low professional will receive $1,200.
