Mary-Pat Quilty & G.W. King Claim Record Fifth
Ash City Ontario PGA Mixed Championship at Midland Golf & Country Club

(Midland, Ont., July 19, 2010) – Mary-Pat Quilty (Settler’s Ghost) and G.W. King (Georgian Bay Club) combined to shoot 8-under-par 62 which was good enough to earn the duo their record fifth victory at the Ontario PGA Mixed Championship. Quilty and King, who both grew up as junior members at Midland Golf & Country Club, edged their closest rivals and three time winners Rhonda Fleury (Henry Brunton Golf) and Wayne Middaugh (Port Carling) by one shot en route to victory.

“I think growing up as junior members here really helps us reading greens and understanding the different shots you need to hit,” said Quilty, in an interview with Ontario PGA TV. “We’ve played this course so much that we’re able to implement a good game plan and really follow it through,” added G.W. King.

Joining Middaugh and Fleury in a tie for second place was 2009 Ontario PGA Women’s Champion, Jennifer Jaszek and Heron Point Head Professional Dan Greenwood. Three teams finished in a tie for fourth place and they included Annie Mallory and Thomas Schupp from the Core Golf Academy, Greg Colekessian and Meg Chapman from the Georgian Bay Club and Angie Schweishelm (Georgian Bay Club) and Gary Jeffrey (Owen Sound).

This was the 10th edition of the Ontario PGA Mixed Championship and 10th year it has been played at Midland Golf Country Club.  Only three teams have managed victory at Midland in the tournament’s brief 10 year history. They include Rhonda Fleury and Wayne Middaugh as well as Tina Clahane (Tee’s Indoor Golf) and Scott Bogle (King Valley).
