Ontario PGA Announces 2009 Awards Nominees

(Pickering, Ont., October 15, 2009) - The 2009 Ontario PGA Awards Night presented by Golf Trends took place Wednesday October 28, 2009 at the Ontario PGA Golf Merchandise Show. Five categories are up for grabs including Teacher of the Year presented by FlightScope, Teacher of the Year for Juniors, Merchandiser of the Year, Assistant of the Year and last but not least Club Professional of the Year.

Teacher of the Year nominees are judged on a wide array of criteria ranging from innovative teaching techniques to instructional articles, videos or promotions. Junior Teacher of the Year nominees are judged on contributions to the development of junior golf to leadership, inspiration and promotion of the game. Merchandiser nominees are judged on criteria such as merchandising philosophy to Pro Shop layout and display techniques. Assistant of the Year nominees are judged on criteria such as staff management, teaching, member interaction and playing ability.

The Club Professional of the Year is selected based on a comprehensive process which includes the acceptance of nominations as well as the identification of certain individuals who potentially meet the overall criteria.

That criterion is based on a point system which includes six different categories in which the candidates are graded. Nominees are also subject to an interview from a committee member.  The committee, which is comprised of all the previous winners of the Club Professional of the Year, then narrows the nominees to two people and a vote then decides the winner.
