Michael Farrugia’s Team Wins First Annual Merit Golf Vacations Pro Am Classic at PGA National


West Palm Beach, FL., November 24, 2008) –Michael Farrugia’s team held on to the lead at PGA National today to clinch the first annual Merit Golf Vacations Pro Am Classic. Farrugia’s team posted their best quota point total today with 90 points, enough to win by 3 points over David Banks’ Team.
“I’m glad we were able to hang on today,” said a stunned Farrugia, who takes home $2000 for the win. “We played well as a team again today and I am very happy to be part of the championship team.” In addition to the $2000 in cash for Farrugia, his amateurs also won the grand prize which is an all expensed paid trip back to PGA National Resort for 3 days.
David Banks’ Team gave it their all today but came up short. Banks team shot the tournament low today with 91 points.
“Our team was unbelievable today,” said Banks. “The week was fantastic and I’m already looking forward to coming back next year.” Dan Clark, the first round leader also put up a good fight and finished in a tie for third place with Ron Janes Team. Clark’s team also won the random draw prize which was a Muskoka Golf package donated by Club Link.
This was the first annual Merit Golf Vacations Ontario PGA Pro Am Classic. Teams consisting of one Canadian PGA Professional and three amateurs competed over three days at PGA National Resort and Spa. Teams play a two best ball quota point system with 4 points for an eagle, 3 points for a birdie, 2 points for a par and 1 point for a bogey.
