John McCann Defeats Dave Levesque in Playoff to Win 2009 Callaway Golf Ontario PGA Fall Championship

(September 30, 2009 - Pontypool, On)
– John McCann (Fairtree Golf Centre) clinched the 2009 Ontario PGA Fall Championship in a playoff over Dave Levesque (Rattlesnake Point). Propelled by a hot putter and the confidence that goes with it, McCann birdied the first playoff hole at Black Diamond (Par 5 – 1st) to clinch his third Ontario PGA win.

“It feels great to not only win but to win in a playoff adds some extra significance,” said McCann who let a 2 shot lead at the Canadian PGA Assistants’ Championship slip away and ended up tied for sixth place. “I’m putting really well and with perfect greens it seemed very easy out there today,” added McCann who had 26 putts on his round.

With this win McCann continues a three year winning streak in which he has won at least one Ontario PGA event in the last three seasons. His first win came in 2007 when he defeated G.W. King (Georgian Bay Club) and Lynden D’Aloisio (Magna) in a play off at the Assistants’ Summer Championship. Earlier this month McCann lost in a four way playoff at The Briars where G.W. King came out with the win.

“The last couple of weeks have been tough, it feels good to get it done today!” said McCann, following the playoff.

To qualify for the playoff both Levesque and McCann shot 3-under-par 69 which was two shots clear of Danny King (Magna), Ian Doig (Ian Doig Golf Academy), Reggie Millage (Clublink Academy), Eddie Maunder (Deerfield) and Mike De Courcy (Scarboro) who all shot 1-under-par 71. Defending Champion Andy Holborn shot 2-over-par 74 to finish tied for 19th spot.

Notes: Eddie Maunder was the final qualifier for the Bamboomer Long Drive Championship which takes place next month at Angus Glen.

- Brent Patriquin (Wooden Sticks) had an eagle on the par 4 sixth hole with an eight iron from 178 yards.

- With his T3 finish Reggie Millage won this year’s Hunt Memorial Trophy. Millage will receive the trophy and winners package at the Fall Scramble October 27 at Angus Glen.
