James Boyce and Mike Marshall win 2018 Head Professional/Assistant Professional Team Series

CAMBRIDGE, ON -- The PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone held their 2018 Head Professional/Assistant Professional Team Series at Whistle Bear Golf Club on Monday.  With the threat of rain in the forecast we got lucky the rain held off until play was completed. The team of James Skrypec and Adam Beange from Deer Ridge held the lead in the clubhouse at 8-under 63 for quite some time until the Glencairn team of James Boyce and Mike Marshall came in carding 9-under 62 which was good enough for the win.
“Whistle Bear’s course conditions were outstanding, after a rather dry summer to date. Greens were holding shots as well as running true. You just needed to start the ball on your line and if your read was correct, the putt was dropping”, Boyce said after the round.

The HP/AP uses a 6-6-6 format consisting of Scramble, Better Ball, and Alternate Shot.  Rounds notoriously hinge on how well teams play during the alternate shot portion, just finishing that format at even par can set a team up for a low round.  It allows them to score in the remaining twelve holes, specifically scramble.

“The format of the event is great, I wouldn’t change a thing. We started on 10 which was alternate shot, not an easy starting format out the gate. We birdied that hole last year and repeated again on Monday. That got the round going for us early. From there, Mike definitely made life easy for me going 4 under on his own ball in the better-ball” recounted Boyce.

The pair who played together in last year’s Head Pro Assistant Pro at Whistle Bear also got an eagle on 16 winning them a $460 payout from the skin.  “The weather co-operated for us all day, the ball was certainly travelling. Gatorade’s, water and additional gloves were definitely in plenty all day”, said Marshall.

“We thoroughly have enjoyed coming to this event the last two years, and plan to do so again in the future. Adam Tobin did a fantastic job hosting everyone, kudos to him and the entire staff at Whistle Bear. Special thanks to Brian and Glen from Levelwear for sponsoring and providing awesome PGA logo’d shirts for all the competitors, I wore mine last night! The folks at Triple Bogey for post-round beers!” said James

Levelwear representatives, Brian Simpson and Glen Smith were on the 10th tee chatting up the players and handing out swag to the players.  Each player received a PGA T-shirt from Levelwear.
