MARKHAM, ON - The PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone, in partnership with Triple Bogey Brewing Co., is proud to announce that the Player of the Year Championship will be named "The Chase for the Breenie Cup", after Bob Breen.

The Breenie Cup will be awarded to the Professional who earns the most points over the tournament season in the six Player of the Year events. "In an effort to honour those who came before us, the Tournament Committee and I are excited about teaming up with Triple Bogey Brewing Co. for the inaugural Chase for the Breenie Cup," said Tournament Chair Michael Moniz. "We don't want to forget the great players who paved the way, helped strengthen and legitimized golf in Canada. I can't think of a better Professional to honour than Bob Breen."

Bob Breen, who passed away in August 2014, won 167+ events over his storied fifty year playing career and is a fitting selection as the Player of the Year namesake. "It's really nice that the Committee decided to start naming some of our Trophies after past Champions," past Player of the Year Champion Brian McCann commented. "And having the Player of the Year trophy named after Bob Breen who was such a great Champion, Mentor and Friend to so many, will be a great Honour for whoever ends up receiving it at the end of the Year. I've had the good fortune the last 3 years to have earned that award, and if I'm able to do it again this year, it would be really special for me to have his name attached to it." The first event in the 2017 Chase for the Breenie Cup will take place on June 1st at Peterborough Golf and Country Club with the 2017 PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone Spring Open.

"My dad has been recognized as a competitive golfer by his peers and that's what the Player of the Year race is all about. It's a true honour for our family," said Blair Breen, son of the late Bob Breen. "Everybody recognizes the competitive level my dad had for the game, and can understand why something like this would be bestowed upon him. His playing record speaks for itself and the PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone made a great decision to honour some of their older statesmen."

The Triple Bogey Brewing Co. has sweetened the deal even further by contributing $5000 towards the Chase for the Breenie Cup and will be present and engaging with Professionals all season long in PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone events. "We are very excited to be a part of such great events with the PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone, specifically the Chase for the Breenie Cup. It's truly an honour to have our name alongside a golf legend like Bob Breen," added founder of Triple Bogey Brewing Co. Geoff Tait. "He was an inspiration to so many and a great pioneer for growing the game. With the PGA of Canada - Ontario Zone by our side we are thrilled to continue to grow our beer brand in Ontario as it is so nice to have so much support among all the golf professionals in this province. We couldn't do it without all the love and support and for that we thank you and we hope we too can help grow the game and encourage people to try this great sport whether it be on a professional level or at any amateur level with a Triple Bogey in hand on the 19th hole."
