Team Dalewood GC sends Jamie Carter off with a Win - 2017 Tournament of Champions

May 12, 2017
GORMLEY, ON -- Twenty-six teams from across the Ontario Zone competed yesterday in the first event of the 2017 tournament season.  Station Creek Golf Club hosted the annual season opener Tournament of Champions and after eighteen holes there were three teams tied at 6-under 66.  Team Dalewood Golf Club (Jamie Carter, Mac Carter, Jeanne Beaith) needed extra time to win the 2017 Tournament of Champions but the playoff made Jamie Carter's swan song that much sweeter.
Jamie Carter started at Dalewood Golf Club only two weeks after his son Mac was born.  In his twenty plus years there, he and Jeanne Beaith have played together in the Tournament of Champions twenty times and have travelled over 5000km together, for the TOC alone.  This year was Carter's last at Dalewood Golf Club and the TOC was his last event.  It only seems fitting that he had his son Mac, and his longtime teammate Jeanne, by his side for his final lap.  "I knew today was going to be special," Carter recounted after the round.  "My wife got up to take the dogs out at about three o'clock in the morning and saw that I was already up.  She asked me sarcastically if I was excited or something.  I looked at her and said, "I have a good feeling about this one.  We are going to win.""
The win didn't come quite as planned.  After eighteen holes, team Dalewood was joined by teams from Trafalgar Golf Club (Fraser McIntyre, Ana Peric, and Noah Van Sickle) and Summit Golf & CC (Ian Leggatt, Ryan Stolys, and Kelsey Fuchs) for a 150 yard closet to the pin shootout.  Dalewood was up first and Jamie Carter, determined to end his Dalewood career with a win, took matters into his own hands and dropped his ball to within a foot of the pin.  The other teams were no match for Carter's final swing, while waving the Dalewood flag.  The team finished their bogey free round with six birdies and after the win Jamie Carter couldn't help but be nostalgic.  "It was such a great day, despite the cold temperatures," he said.  "All of us were striking the ball well and we hit a lot of greens.  I couldn't have scripted the day any better.  It really makes you look back and realize how fortunate I was in my career, and to have my son here beside me and to finish it off with a win; I couldn't be happier."
