Sixteen qualify for the Nike PGA Team Championship of Canada

Sixteen qualify for the Nike PGA Team Championship of Canada

In partnership with NIKE Golf and the PGA of Canada the PGA of Ontario held their regional 4-ball stroke play qualifier for the Nike Team Championship of Canada being held at the Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda.  The top 16 teams from Ontario punched their ticket to compete in the inaugural Nike PGA Team National Championship.  Partners Scott Bogle and Brian Groves, despite carding a bogey on the third hole, took top spot and the $3000 prize leading the Ontario zone qualifiers to compete against the rest of the country for the $90,000 national purse.  The duo had nine birdies and finished the round at 8-under 64.

At the end of play there were two teams tied for the last and final qualifying spot.  John Rushnell/Bill Mackenzie and Alf Callowhill/Josh Doan were all square at 2-under after their round when they headed back to the 18th tee to go head to head in a sudden-death playoff.  After all four had great tee shots onto the 416 yard par 4, it was Mackenzie and Doan going putt for putt for the sixteenth position.  Mackenzie made his par putt, leaving Doan with a short putt for par and to half the hole, he uncharacteristically pushed the ball past the hole giving Rushnell and Mackenzie the victory.
