Brian Hutton's hot hand leads PGA of Ontario Seniors Championship

For Immediate Release

August 11, 2014

AURORA, ON - Senior PGA of Ontario professionals gathered Monday at King's Riding Golf Club to face off on day one of the PGA of Ontario Seniors Championship.  With a horrible forecast looming over tomorrows round, players needed to make today's round count.

Brian Hutton came storming out of the gate with birdies on three of his first five holes.  With a brief birdie break on #6, Hutton's hot hand continued as he birdied the remainder of the front nine making the turn at 6-under 29.  After a birdie on ten Hutton cooled off coming home but managed to grind through the back and come into the clubhouse holding a 4-under 67.  "Round was very good, struck it pretty well on the first ten holes.  I stumbled a bit coming in but still a good round, particularly the putting."

Hutton, who played at King's Riding back in 2011 when the PGA of Canada held their Seniors Championship here, remembered, "I finished fourth back in 2011 and that was with a double bogey on 18.  This is generally a good course for my game, tomorrow I just need to take it one shot at a time and stay focused.  See what happens, you never know."

The Super Senior division (60+ years old) at first glance looked like it would be a cake walk for Gar Hamilton after he birdied his first three holes.  Hamilton finished the front-nine at 2-under while struggling on the back-nine, he finished the round at even par with a two shot lead over Bob Beauchemin.

Executive Director Kevin Purcell commented, "With nearly 60mm of rain in the forecast in the next 24 hours it may prove to be difficult to play tomorrow.  It will be a game time decision, and we will let everyone know if we need to cancel by email.  As of right now though, we are planning to be playing golf come 8:30am.  I feel pretty good that the course will handle the rain and I'm excited to see some great golf tomorrow."
