PICKERING, ON - The PGA of Ontario is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Bevan and Curtis Pitre to its Board of Directors effective immediately.

Bevan has been the General Manager and Executive Professional at RiverBend Golf Community in London since 2010, while Pitre has been the Head Professional at Oviinbyrd in Muskoka since 2004 and he earned his Executive Professional status earlier this year.

"We look forward to the experience and ideas both Curtis and Simon will bring to the Board as the PGA of Ontario continues to respond to the needs of its 800-plus members, creates new partnerships and grows the game of golf in Ontario," says Rob Hickson, President of the PGA of Ontario.

Pitre, who hails from Capreol Ontario, a small community north of Sudbury, graduated from the PGM program at Georgian College in 2000 and became a Class A professional with the PGA of Canada in 2004. Curtis previously worked at Bay of Quinte G&CC, Idylwylde G&CC and Rocky Crest before the move to Oviinbyrd.  Pitre is hoping to help better connect professionals, not only in Muskoka, but farther north to see what they need and reach out to them and possibly see a tournament in the Muskoka region in the next year or two.

"It's important to me and has become my objective to educate young professionals on the commitment and dedication it takes in order to become successful in this business," Pitre says. "The more information, knowledge and education we can provide our successors with, the stronger our association becomes in the future. Growing our brand and reaching out across the entire province is a big step towards that goal."

Bevan brings 25-plus of experience at some of Ontario's top clubs to the Board. A PGA of Canada member since 1987, Simon worked at Greenhills GC, Glen Abbey GC, Grandview GC, and Deerhurst Resort before returning to London. While in Muskoka he was also a member of the Huntsville Economic Development Advisory Committee and on the Board of Directors for the Huntsville/Lake of Bay's Chamber of Commerce. He has also been a member of the Canadian Society of Club Managers for the past four years and the National Golf Course Owners Association for 15 years.

"After 25 years in this business I'm due to give back to the association. I'm also of the opinion that if you want to be heard, you should do something about it and not just sit back," says Bevan who would like to see more club professionals consider moves into club management as progressive career path choices. "I'm looking forward to reaching out to our members and listening to what they have to say about where we are today and their vision for the future."

Pitre and Bevan are filling vacancies on the Board as; Dustin Kerr-Taylor, Head Professional at Bayview G&CC and PGA of Ontario Past President, who has been on the Board since 2005, and Greg Downer, the GM & Head Professional at Muskoka Bay Club step down.
