THORNBURY, ON - Better late than never for Brian McCann.

After three victories in 2011 and two in 2012 on the PGA of Ontario tour McCann finally captured his first triumph of 2013 winning the Golf Supply House PGA of Ontario Fall Championship at the very scenic Georgian Bay Club on Wednesday, September 18th.

The Elite Apprentice at The Academy at BraeBen Bradlee Ryall Golf putted his way to victory despite feeling uncomfortable over his putter for much of the round. "I hit the ball really well from tee to green, but this may sound crazy, but despite all the birdies my putting stroke just feels so bad," said McCann, who carded seven birdies on the day, none outside 12 feet. His two bogeys were a result of a three-putt on No. 3 and a bogey on No. 11 from 40 yards.

McCann finished the round at 5-under par, 66, which included a hot streak of four consecutive birdies on holes five through eight. "It was one of those rounds where the shots I hit I hit close (to the hole) and I made the putts. I made momentum putts that gave me confidence. I made a five-footer, then I made an eight-footer and it rolled on from there."

Only four players in the field of 68 players broke par, as Ed Maunder from Deerfield GC took second place at 2-under, 69, while Danny King from the Performance Academy at Magna and Chris Wehrle from Whistle Bear GC finished T3 at 1-under, 70.

"I birdied two of my last four holes, so it was a nice way to finish off and move up," said Maunder who worked at Georgian Bay Club in 2006 and 2007. "I also played in the pro-am up here a couple of months ago and a lot of the flag positions were similar to what we had today, so that helped out too," added Maunder who shot a 1-under 70 in the pro-am. "It's always great to come back here and play the course."

In a move that you don't see too often, Megan Chapman who teaches out of The Academy at The Georgian Bay Club teed it up with the men from their tees. Chapman finished the day T43 at 7-over, 78.

Don Harrison, Partner and Director of Sales at Golf Supply House in Mississauga, which is the Title Sponsor for the PGA of Ontario Championship, enjoyed the opportunity to meet with and watch the pros in action.

"In Canada we had a great start to the season thanks to a strong fall booking in 2012 and it picked up again in July and August," Harrison said, noting they're in the midst of buying season for 2014. They are seeing strong orders, partly due to the fact that many clubs didn't do a lot of re-ordering in the early spring and summer. "We have seen an increase in the business this year and we have more acquisitions that you will hear about in the next six months or so."
